Superyacht manufacturer Wider completed the sea trials of its Wider 150 superyacht in December, and the yacht has the distinctive trait of being able to run entirely on electric power.

Designed by Fulvio de Simoni and overseen by Tilli Antonelli, the yacht can reach a top speed of 15 knots in diesel-electric mode, and, during the trials, the yacht’s battery banks were rigorously tested to ensure the yacht can run in ‘zero-emission’ mode, exclusively on battery and generator power.

The company says the Wider 150 was “conceived to enhance the owner’s contact with the sea, while significantly increasing interior volumes compared to other motor yachts of a similar size.”

The boat is made entirely out of aluminium and offers amenities such as a seven-metre on board swimming pool and a 32ft rigid tender boat. The yacht’s Owner’s Apartment measures 75 square metres and has a four square metre terrace. She is set to be delivered this month.

Superyacht World reports that Wider’s next project, the 50m Project Cecilia (Wider 165), is one of the top 10 superyachts to watch for in 2016:

“The 50-metre Wider 165 has been created by designer Fulvio De Simoni in collaboration with Wider’s founder and CEO Tilli Antonelli and the in-house design team, with a brief to enhance the owner’s contact with the sea. She has a diesel-electric propulsion set-up of a 544kW/h lithium polymer battery bank and azimuth pods, and four variable-speed diesel generators. A range of 3,500 nautical miles is expected at a cruising speed of 13 knots, with a zero emission speed of five knots.”
