The RNLI Lizard lifeboat rescue crew launched from Cornwall in heavy weather conditions to intercept the endangered vessel. Watch the video here.
Striking photos and a video from the RNLI depict the harrowing rescue of a disabled yacht in gale-force winds.
The group sent out their Lizard lifeboat from Cornwall to intercept the 33ft Golden Morn that had suffered engine failure and was struggling against high winds and a four-metre swell some 20 miles off Lizard Point.
The crew of the lifeboat came alongside the yacht and passed the sailor onboard a tow line and then proceeded to the stricken boat through the heavy conditions back to the safety of Port Pendennis Marina in Falmouth.
It took the two boats more than three hours to reach safe harbour due to the difficult conditions, and the lifeboat crew made it back to the station just before 6 p.m., after nearly six hours at sea. The lifeboat crew were coxswain Andrew Putt, volunteer mechanic Nick Tattersall, volunteer deputy second coxswain Darren Thirlaway and volunteer crew members Simon Fayers, Brett Jose, Sam James and Neil Bundy.
