The British America’s Cup team has released footage of their foiling training off Port Hamble

Hot on the heels of the next America’s Cup location being announced, Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) has released footage of their training in preparation for the event in 2017.

Foiling is often compared to flying, and in this video posted on YouTube, one of the BAR
sailors can be seen taking it a bit too literally after being catapulted from their boat, capsizing it in the process.

Just before this, the video shows great footage of several Nacra F20s foiling on the water at what
certainly looks like some impressive speeds.

Sailor Matt Cornwall said: “Here we are at Port Hamble, MDL Marina, where we keep our Nacra F20s. It’s the middle of autumn so it’s starting to get a bit colder but we’ve got a lot of work to do and we’re getting on with it.

“We’re using Nacra F20s for foiling training, they’re fast, reactive boats and the learning curve is really steep.

“We’ve had the designers down here as well as the sailors and it’s really important to get those relationships right. The communication between the sailing team and the design team is really the key to doing well in the America’s Cup.”
