Howth RNLI were called out to Lambay Island in the Irish Sea on Tuesday following reports from the public

Two sailors were rescued from their yacht on Tuesday morning after it beached on rocks amid 58 knot winds and rough seas.

Howth RNLI were sent to Lambay Island in the Irish Sea after reports from the public alerted them to the situation.

The lifeboat arriving on scene shortly before 11am, with volunteer crewmen launching a small XP inflatable boat to go ashore and investigate further.

After locating the two men, a coastguard helicopter was called in to airlift the causalities to safety as the sea was too rough to risk a transfer to the lifeboat.

Once safely ashore, the lifeboat returned to the station in what was described as challenging conditions.
