Authorities are investigating whether arson could be to blame for the blaze.

A fire at a marina in the US has claimed two lives, destroyed 21 boats and damaged many more.

The marina fire, seen in the video above, broke out in the early morning hours of Monday at the Dozier Port Urbanna Marina in Urbanna, Virginia, on the US east coast.

According to local reports, the fire spread quickly, consuming a boat house and storage facility as well as 50 boats and two cars.

A local fire service responded to the conflagration, assisted by volunteers from fourteen fire departments around the area. The fire fighters managed to control the inferno by 8:30 am local time.

Several state agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the fire to contain and clean up hazardous materials, and search and recovery divers checked sunken boats to ensure no one had been trapped inside during the fire.

The remains of the two individuals who died in the fire were sent to the state medical examiner and identified by police. Several locals were quoted as describing the two deceased as a couple who were living at the marina on a 50ft yacht while their home was being renovated.

Virginia State Police and the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the fire as a possible case of arson, according to a police spokeswoman.
