Big names from the boating industry gather to inspire students, apprentices and graduates

Registrations have already topped 200 for the Shipwrights Lecture taking place tomorrow (Wednesday 17th October) at the Turner Simms Hall at 2.00pm.

The annual lecture offers marine apprentices, young shipwrights and marine graduates a chance to meet an impressive line-up of speakers from some of the boat industry’s best known employers.

Sue Grant, Managing Director at Berthon International, will lead a panel of marine experts as they dissect the used yacht sales process, addressing the issues and work required to ensure that yachts are sold in a safe, seaworthy condition.

Tristan Jones, Joinery Manager and former apprentice at Pendennis Shipyard will talk about his progression from general apprentice to member of the Senior Management Team at the prestigious supery.

This will be followed by a presentation from Andy Claughton, former Design Coordinator for Team New Zealand America’s Cup from 2000-2007 and now working at the world-renowned Wolfson Unit, who specialises in developing the science of yacht design and performance prediction.

Robert Braithwaite CBE, President of Sunseeker International will be the closing speaker of this year’s Shipwrights Lecture, offering his unique insight into the industry and his progression from regional yacht distributor to head of one of the world’s most exciting global luxury brands.

Attendance is free for apprentices nominated by their employers and anyone under the age of 25 who is studying in the marine sector and each apprentice receives a certificate of attendance.
