RNLI lifeboats have been deployed to look for two teenage boys from Birmingham lost off the Welsh coast

A huge air and sea search is underway to try to locate two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, who’ve disappeared off the Welsh coast whilst swimming off Barmouth beach on Sunday afternoon, 7 August.

RNLI lifeboat crews were searching for the boys, believed to be from Birmingham, yesterday, but were told to return to their base at 6.30pm.
They were advised to be on standby should the HM Coastguard requested to relaunch them.
A shoreline search however continued.

Barmouth’s inshore and all-weather lifeboats were scrambled just before 2pm, followed by Aberdovy RNLI’s inshore lifeboat at around 3.20.

The North Wales police and Helimed, the Welsh ambulance service, were also in attendance.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said the boys got into difficulty as they went for a swim and were “unable to return to shore”.

A source was reported by the Birmingham Mail, saying:

“My brother travelled with them, they’re from Birmingham.

“I haven’t been told anything new from my brother yet, just that two of the boys are still missing at sea. It was a day trip. They had hired a coach for the day.

“I think it was organised by a community centre but I’m not too sure.

“The coach holds around 50 people.”
