Oban lifeboat was called out on Thursday night following reports of an explosion aboard a yacht

A lone sailor suffered burns on Thursday evening after being involved in an explosion aboard a yacht.

It’s not yet known what caused the incident on the vessel anchored in Puilladobhrain, Seil Island, but the man was able to escape and row himself ashore

He then made his own way to Oban hospital, before being transferred to Glasgow.

A lifeboat from Oban arrived on the scene at 9.25pm, following a request from Stornoway Coastguard to locate and assess the yacht.

Rescue crews discovered the windows and hatch had been blown out of the vessel and with the only person on board being accounted for, they decided to two the vessel back to Oban.

The volunteer crew departed the scene at 9.45pm and took the yacht under tow and by 10.28pm, the vessel had safely been berthed.
