A number of events around the UK are scheduled to celebrate the monarch's landmark and those who share the Queen's birthday can board the Royal Yacht for free.

Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 90th birthday this year, and her “floating palace” will take part in the celebrations.

On 21 April, her majesty will become the first British monarch to reach 90, and she’ll be celebrating in style over the course of several months.

Although most of the celebrations are set to take place around Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace in London, Scotland is also hosting celebrations that include tourist attractions throughout Scotland with a royal connection.

One of the main sites is her former floating palace, The Royal Yacht Britannia, which was used for more than 40 years of her now more-than 60-year reign.

Berthed in Edinburgh, the yacht has been a top visitor attraction in Scotland for 10 years.

The Queen has described the yacht as the “one place I can truly relax,” and it’s the only place where visitor’s are able to view a living monarch’s bedroom.

If you share the Queen’s April 21 birthday, you can book a ticket to board for free with proof of your birthdate and enjoy a glass of champagne and cake.

Her birthday is just one part of a larger set of celebrations, however. The Queen will be outside London at Windsor Castle on the day, where she’ll do a royal walkabout.

Up next, between 12-15 May, is the first of two official celebrations. The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration will see a 90-minute performance each evening at Windsor, with the Queen attending on the final night. The performance is to include 900 horses and 1,500 performers and is being planned by the same team who put the Diamond Jubilee Pageant together in Windsor in 2012.

And finally, over three days in June, from June 10-12, a long weekend of events are set to commemorate the Queen’s 90th in London.

Starting on June 10 — also the Duke of Edinburgh’s 95th birthday, although he has specified that he wants no public celebration of the event — there will be a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral. The weekend celebrations continue on 11 June is the date for this year’s Trooping of the Colour, the official annual celebration of the Queen’s birthday. On June 12, the Mall in London will become a huge street party for The Patron’s Lunch, where 10,000 guests will enjoy a picnic lunch and entertainment from street performers and circus acts.
