American superyacht yard Palmer Johnson has released renders of a Bugatti speedboat, which has been licensed by the Italian supercar giants.
Fancy a Bugatti speedboat to go with your Bugatti Veyron? That mouth-watering idea could soon be a reality, after Palmer Johnson revealed they have been working with the Italian supercar builders.
The Bugatti Niniette range is only in the concept stage at the moment, but the initial renderings are very promising indeed.
First up would be a 63ft model, called the Bugatti PJ63, which would feature a carbon fibre hull and have a top speed of 38 knots.
The starting price for the first Bugatti speedboat would be a cool €3.25m (£2.33m), and for this price you would get a 63m2 cockpit as well as a 43m2 saloon below decks.
Speaking of the decks, owners will get a choice of finish, from brown bubinga or maple to naturally blue morta oak wood. Optional extras include a hardtop bimini.
Further down the line, the range would be expanded to include a 42ft entry-level model and an 88ft superyacht, Palmer Johnson adds.
Dr. Stefan Brungs, sales and marketing director at Bugatti, said of the design: “This very special project brings together two brands with more than 100 years of experience in high-end hand crafting in their respective fields.
“Palmer Johnson has created not only an incredibly elegant and beautiful yacht but also a masterpiece of craftsmanship featuring carbon fibre, titanium and precious wood. This collector’s item will thrill maritime aficionados.”
The design is noticeably Palmer Johnson, with the reverse-entry prow and flared sponsons evoking the styling of the SuperSport 38M.
Meanwhile, for a touch of Bugatti heritage, the elegantly curved transom features the iconic EB emblem.
Timur Mohamed, owner of Palmer Johnson, added: “We are proud to be able to use Bugatti’s name and design DNA for our exciting new model line.
“Bugatti and Palmer Johnson are united by the vision of not just thinking outside the box but moving into completely uncharted waters.”
We’ve been here before, of course, with many prestige car manufacturers stating their desire to build a speedboat, only for nothing to actually materialise beyond a few pretty renders.
However, there are a few key details which suggest that Bugatti may have serious intentions to build a boat.
One of them is the name – Niniette was founder Ettore Bugatti’s nickname for his daughter Lidia, so its unlikely the company would throw this moniker around lightly.
What’s more, the Italian sportscar pioneer did have some experience of developing racing boats and yachts in the 1930s, so maybe the concept of a Bugatti speedboat isn’t so far-fetched after all.
