J. K. Rowling is selling Johnny Depp's former yacht for £15m

The Harry Potter author bought the 156-foot yacht in January after she chartered it for a family holiday. The Amphirite was previously owned by Johnny Depp before he sold it to an American shipping magnet.

Children’s author, J. K. Rowling is reportedly selling her yacht, less than a year after buying it.

The Amphirite is being sold through the agents, Curtis Stokes & Associates, for €17.8 million, around £15 million.

The Harry Potter creator bought the Turquoise motor yacht in January 2016 for £22 million.

Described as a “modern motor yacht with classic styling”, the 156-foot Amphirite was previously owned by Johnny Depp, who extensively refitted the vessel in 2009.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor spent £5 million adding a ship-wide entertainment system, renovating the cabins and buying water toys, including skis and wakeboards, for the superyacht.

He later sold it to an American shipping magnate in 2015.

J. K. Rowling decided to buy the yacht, previously called Anatolia and Vajoliroja, after she and her family chartered the vessel for a holiday.

The yacht brokerage website lists the Amphitrite as being moored in Corfu, Greece.

The yacht’s layout includes a master stateroom on the main deck, five total staterooms and extensive exterior dining, entertaining and relaxation spaces.

The master stateroom is located forward on the main deck and has a centreline king size berth. There is also an ensuite bathroom.

The port forward guest stateroom offers a queen size berth and ensuite head with enclosed shower.

In the salon, there are two separate seating areas with sofas. It also boasts 10 large windows on each side.

Curtis Stokes & Associates state the Amphirite is a “popular charter yacht”.

A week’s charter costs £100,000.

J. K. Rowling, author of one of the most beloved children’s book series in modern memory, has reportedly bought a yacht owned by Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp.

Rowling chartered the yacht, called Amphitrite, which Depp listed for holiday lets when not onboard. It appears the author may continue Depp’s practice of chartering the vessel, which is currently listed on multiple sites at £72,000 per week.

Depp changed the yacht’s name in 2015 – formerly Vajoliroja, a pun on the pirate flag the Jolly Roger that also blended Johnny Depp’s first name and those of his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis and their two children Lily-Rose and Jack – to Amphitrite after the sea goddess and wife of Poseidon in Greek myth as a gift to his new wife Amber Heard. He later sold the yacht to an American shipping magnate.

The actor spent £5m renovating the three-deck yacht in 2009, adding a ship-wide entertainment system, filling the five cabins with plush fabrics and bringing water toys including skis, wakeboards, windsurf kit, kayaks and snorkel gear.

According to yachting website MetaYachts.com, the 2001-built vessel was, “Inspired by the gentlemen’s yachts of the 1930s … [and] invokes the romance and glamour of a bygone era. It’s all there: The long overhangs, the clipper bow, the funnel, the counter stern, and … enough teak and mahogany to fill a Rothschild library.”
