The man, woman and their son were airlifted by helicopter after being trapped by a high tide.
The family were talking a walk in the direction of Charmouth when a tide came in and they couldn’t get to high ground.
A boat from Lyme Regis RNLI was launched to help rescue the man, woman and 16-year-old son who were stuck between Charmouth and Golden Cap, but because of the choppy waters and high tide the RNLI felt they couldn’t bring them aboard safely.
Crew member Tom Crabbe swam 200 metres to reassure them that the Portland coastguard helicopter was on its way and to help them walk back to a safe area. They were all then airlifted to safety.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
