A "heavily intoxicated" man was pulled from the River Ouse in York on Saturday (03 October) after climbing on to a bridge and diving into the water.
The York Rescue boat raced to the Ouse Bridge area at 18:45 BST on Saturday after the man had jumped in.
He was taken to York Hospital suffering from the effects of cold-water shock.
Rescuers posted on Facebook: “With the amount of alcohol he had consumed, he was extremely lucky he didn’t drown.”
They added: “The male was heavily intoxicated and instantly suffering from cold water shock.”
York Rescue Boat posted footage of the rescue on their Facebook page and also warned potential river divers ‘It’s not worth the risk #DontDrinkandDrown.’
In 2014, four people drowned in rivers in various spots in York.
