The yacht, which was tied to a fence next to the road, had been in danger of capsizing, prompting the authorities to partially close the A82 through Fort William.

The 33ft vessel ran aground just by the A82, prompting the crew onboard the Norwegian boat to tie it to a fence alongside the road to try and stop it from tipping over.

The yacht, called Sailing the Farm, belongs to a self-sufficient group from Norway, who are hoping to turn it into a floating community.

Sailing the Farm became stuck on rocks and tipped over when it came too close to the wall on the road between Inverness and Glasgow, on Thursday afternoon, 22 September.

According to the local police the weight of the boat had come onto the fence as the tide receded.

The local Coastguard and a boat from the nearby Underwater Centre were on the scene to assist the vessel.

The police were hoping that the high tide in the evening would refloat the boat.

In the meantime the northbound lane of the A82 was closed, with alternative routes being put in place.
