Cable & Wireless Adventurer will arrive in Honolulu, Hawaii at the end of her epic crossing of the Pacific at 0500 (Local) Sunday 31st May. After 9 days at sea and having suffered some technical problems in her previous leg, the boat will arrive 17 hours behind schedule but still well on course to break the existing record of 83 days.

Plans to greet the vessel include traditional Hawaiian hula dancers offering lais of flowers in welcome. Hawaii will also be welcoming home Captain Dave Lyman, Chief Pilot of the Islands and temporary crew member for the Pacific crossing. Aloha Conferencing, a Cable & Wireless Company, will then host a reception for the crew.

The crew are looking forward to a well deserved break in Hawaii while the ground crew undertake standard servicing and refuelling prior to setting off for San Diego. Jock Wishart, Project Leader, commented “It’s been a long crossing but the vessel and crew have performed as well as we knew they would. The weather has been against us at times but on the whole the seas have been over our shoulders rather than in our faces – that makes a huge difference. We all know that we have many challenges ahead, not least of which we be transiting the Panama Canal – that’s where the last circumnavigation attempt failed!”

Cable & Wireless Adventurer will stop in Honolulu for approximately 20 hours prior to embarking on the next leg to San Diego on Monday 1st June. Her current performance puts her into Gibraltar having completed the circumnavigation on 4th July breaking the current record by 7 days. Further stops include Panama, Kingston, Miami and New York.
