The body of a 28-year-old British tourist has been discovered on a beach on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

The man, named locally as Jason Jones, was reportedly on a boat trip with his girlfriend when he fell overboard.

According to local police, the couple were on a sightseeing tour boat when Jones fell from the boat into the water in rough seas.

Officers from the police marine unit in Vieux Fort were reportedly dispatched to the scene to try to find him, but were unsuccessful.

Jones’ body was found on the Anse Ger beach in St Lucia Wednesday morning and was taken to St Jude Hospital where the man was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out and the police are reportedly carrying out an investigation, although initial indications are that he died from drowning, according to the Telegraph.

A statement from the Foreign Office said: “We are offering assistance to the family of a British national who died in St Lucia on 24 February.”
