The global sailing race took place in memory of the Olympic sailor in September
Worldwide sailing race Bart’s Bash has raised a total of £366,391 for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.
The charity, which aims to inspire young people through sailing, held the global sailing race in memory of the Olympic sailor who died in May 2013.
Andrew Simpson’s son Freddie and his classmates at Sherborne Primary School made the announcement of the grand total on Wednesday.
The foundation’s CEO Richard Percy, said: “A huge thank you from everyone at the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation for supporting us and helping to create a fantastic sailing event to honour a great sailor.
“We really hope to see you all out on the water on September 20th for the next Bart’s Bash.”
Yesterday’s fundraising announcement comes exactly one year since the event was launched.
In a statement, the charity said: “It’s a testament to the hard work of the Bart’s Bash team that so many people made it on to the water on one special day and so much money raised in memory of Bart.”
Funds raised will be used to support the foundation’s national and international projects, which allow young people to experience the challenges and education of sailing.
