Alasdair Akass will begin his new post for the charity in March next year
Sailing charity the 1851 Trust has appointed a multi-award winning director as their CEO.
Alasdair Akass has been given the role after an extensive interview process back in November, having already gained vast experience in the charity sector.
Currently working as the director of development at the British School of Paris, Mr Akass’s career has seen him work with the likes of English Heritage, Marks and Spencer and the National Trust.
Mr Akass later moved into the education sector with a role at Portsmouth Grammar School, giving him great contacts in the city that homes the 1851 Trust.
During his time in Portsmouth he also worked with the RYA, local sailing clubs, Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust, Jubilee Sailing Trust and John Merricks Sailing Trust.
1851 Trust chairman Sir Keith Mills said: “The trustees are delighted with the appointment of Alasdair Akass as the new CEO for the 1851 Trust.
“Alasdair will bring all the skills and energy necessary to build an exciting new charity, which will help thousands of disadvantages young people.”
The charity, set up by Olympic sailor Sir Ben Ainslie and Keith Mills was launched in October with the British America’s Cup Team, with the aim of inspiring and engaging a new generation through sailing and the maritime industry.
