Edinburgh Marina’s developers, Edinburgh Marina Holdings, have announced they are now taking reservations for apartments and berths at the new marina complex.
Located just 2.5 miles north west of Edinburgh city centre and 8 miles from the airport, the new £500m Edinburgh Marina development sits on 50 acres of land and forms part of the regeneration of Granton Harbour.
The development will include a 340 berth marina designed to surpass the 5 Gold Anchors rating of the Yacht Harbour Association with chandlery, boatyard and 24/7 security; a 4 star SPA hotel with restaurants, luxury and affordable flats overlooking the coast and the Royal Wharf Living for Retirement – 106 apartments aimed at residents over 55 with 24-hour concierge service and secure parking, a retail park and a medical centre.
This new waterside development boasts stunning views of the coastline, the Firth of the Forth, including the World Heritage site of the Forth Bridge and Kingdom of Fife. Once completed, a new tram extension from the city centre to Granton and Leith will also provide easy access to the area.
Operated by Camper & Nicholsons, Edinburgh’s first ever purpose-built luxury marina will boast state of the art facilities and 340 berths. 76 will accommodate boats of 10m x 4m, 56 12m x 4.5m, 107 14m x 4.9m, 59 16m x 5.5m, 27 18m x 5.75m, and 16 have been created for larger yachts, with 9 for boats which measure 25m x 7.5 m, 5 for 30m x 9m and one berth for a superyacht measuring up to 45m x 11m.
Edinburgh Marina Director and Developer Kevin Fawcett expects a variety of different boaters to take advantage of the facilities: “We have had exceedingly high levels of interest from a full spectrum of boat owners and yachting enthusiasts, from existing and future Edinburgh and Edinburgh Marina residents, casual sailors and those who would like to use the Marina as a base for long-distance journeys.”, he says.“The opportunity to dock in a 5 Golden Anchor Marina that rivals those on the west coast of Scotland and beyond is a prime motivator for those reserving berths and we expect further interest as more homes are released for sale.”
This is certainly an ambitious project, but one that seems well thought out too. The marina facilities in Edinburgh’s have so far been scarce and whilst many boaters tend to sail the west coast of Scotland and visit the stunning Hebrides, the east coast has also much to offer, such as the Islands of the Forth, and thanks to its strong winds, it’s perfect for sailing.
The marina will have 24/7 security and fully serviced berth, boat cleaning services and a chandlery with amenities and full access to restaurants. Plus the nearby hotel will deliver meals directly to the yachts as requested.
The total number of homes on the development is 1,850, with 440 residential flats being built, out of which 25-30% will be affordable ones.
Edinburgh Marina Holdings have recently announced the first phase of their luxury Royal Wharf development retirement apartments.
Aimed at buyers over 55, the 106 apartments will benefit from 24-hour concierge service, secure separate private storage facilities and car parking (all with charging points for electric cars), private dining room and cinema, business centre, communal laundry, dog washing facilities and access to amenities. Prices start at £306,500 for a one bedroom flat with penthouses being sold for £1.1m. Edinburgh Marina Holdings’ recently restored Old Gunpowder store marketing suite is now open to view show apartments and reserve one for a £1000 deposit or a berth for £250. The price to reserve an apartment together with a berth is also £1000.
The Royal Wharf construction is due to start in the first quarter of 2019 and completed in 2021, whilst the marina will open in 2020.
Edinburgh Marina development granted planning permission for a medical centre and shopping hub
The developer of the new Edinburgh Marina development has confirmed that planning consent has been received for its community health centre and local retail provision at Chestnut Yard in the heart of the £500 million waterside scheme.
A fully equipped medical centre and five retail units at Chestnut Yard will provide health and shopping services for Edinburgh Marina residents, and will serve as a hub for the local community. The £6 million Chestnut Yard mixed-used project is the latest scheme within the wider Edinburgh Marina development to receive planning consent following its luxury retirement living scheme in January 2018.
Located in close proximity to Chestnut Yard, the marina itself will enable Scotland’s capital to compete with the more established west coast sailing destinations put Scotland’s £3.7bn marine tourism industry on the map; creating new facilities to help expand the size of Scotland’s overall market.
Commenting on this announcement, the developer, Kevin Fawcett stated: “The provision of essential local shopping and health care services within the community is vital to the development as a whole and will help to reduce vehicle use in the surrounding area. This facility is a key milestone for the development and a significant step forward for Granton’s local residents which is long overdue.”
The marina development will create 400 new permanent jobs, 100 more than the City of Edinburgh Council estimated in 2016.

The £500 million Edinburgh Marina development will create a whopping 400 new permanent jobs, 100 more than estimated by the City of Edinburgh Council in 2016.
In a press release, marina operators Camper & Nicholsons Marinas have also stated that in addition to the increased number of new jobs for the local community provided by the Edinburgh Marina development, the percentage of affordable homes that will be delivered throughout the scheme is higher than what originally expected.
It’s also believed that a leading international hotel brand that has never had a presence in Scotland, will manage the nearby hotel and apartments, but Camper & Nicholsons Marinas have yet to disclose the group’s name.
A spokesman for the developer stated today: “We are very pleased that we can deliver such a significant number of new permanent jobs at all levels from apprentices through to senior management. So much so that immediately the final consents have been granted and work has commenced on site we intend to open a dedicated website for future potential employees to register. An announcement on the identity of the Hotel operator will follow soon.”

Camper & Nicholsons Marinas has confirmed it will design, commission, manage and operate the new Edinburgh Marina.
The marine owner and operator has agreed terms with Edinburgh Marina Granton Harbour Limited. The state-of-the-art marina, located 2.5 miles north west of central Edinburgh, will be the centrepiece of the £500 million waterside development and is set to become a gateway to Scotland’s revered cruising grounds.

The new Edinburgh Marina has been designed to surpass the 5 Gold Anchors rating of the Yacht Harbour Association, creating a new destination for boaters from all over the world. The marina will boast 340 full-serviced berths, with visitor berths and additional dry berths for boats up to 30m in length. There will also be 24/7 access to the sea, on-demand, on-board food and drink along with concierge service. Marine services and an extensive chandlery will be located in the new marina office sited within the fully equipped new boatyard. The marina has been designed to accommodate the full-size range of yachts and cruisers, including superyachts – the first time this has been possible on Scotland’s east coast.
